WHY THE NEW REGULATIONS? Here
is some insight into one of the many possible reasons there
are new regulations being introduced regarding access to
consumer credit files. The Federal Trade Commission alleged that ChoicePoint, a competitor of AmerUSA,
wrongfully approved individual customers who lied about their
credentials and used commercial mail drops as business
addresses. The agency also charged that ChoicePoint violated
the FTC Act by making false and misleading statements about
its privacy policies. Over 800 cases of identity theft arose from the
security breach. ChoicePoint will pay $10 million in civil
penalties and $5 million in consumer redress to settle
Federal Trade Commission charges.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The
federally regulated bureaus have imposed new restrictions on
obtaining consumer credit files. All U.S. landlords must
fulfill these new requirements before January 1, 2007. If
you opened your tenant screening account before October 23,
2006, you must
re-register
in order to comply with the new regulations. Tenant
screening pricing will not change. If you operate as a
landlord from an office or residence with a home office, you will now have the option of
real time access to consumer credit files online. For those
who do not or cannot have a site inspection, AmerUSA has introduced its very own
report based upon an official consumer credit file called
the AmTRAX® tenancy report.

their state of residence. Results are delivered under separate
cover within 24 hours. AmerUSA

states to obtain registered sex offender information. However,
as with many of our criminal searches that are also accessible
by the general public, we make the research easier for you. Protect
your family: AmerUSA urges you to contact your Governor today

As indicated in our
December press release, AmerUSA announced it's first ever price change since it's inception in 1999.
Recent changes in Federal Law were the major factors behind this
change. AmerUSA continues to fight for the
individual landlord's right to obtain consumer credit
information and strictly adheres to the new regulations and
protocol required to provide our services. The cost for our standard tenant screening service is
now $24.95 and still includes all of the features our loyal
clients have been accustomed to over the past 6 years. As
many of our landlords are aware, the tenant screening service
fee is not intended to be a burden; many of
our clients pass this expense along to their applicants by charging
an application fee of $25, $30 or even more. AmerUSA
would like to
thank the thousands of landlords that have made us the
nation's leading provider of tenant credit report screening
services.
Coming soon: The
AmerUSA affiliate USLandlord.com will be offering an online
interactive discussion group for landlords to share stories
and advice.
